Storm Warnings

Storm Ciara Weather Warning

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for this weekend 8th to 10th January 2020.  Strong winds are forecast to affect much of the UK.  For updates please see the Met Office website.

This email is a reminder to ensure vessels and moorings are checked on a regular basis, particularly in the event of forecast bad weather.

As a boat owner you have a general duty to exercise due diligence in managing and maintaining your vessel, including mooring arrangements, not only during the winter but the entire year.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Ensure mooring lines are appropriate in type, size and strength for the purpose intended;
  • Consider the use of anti-chafe measures and the use of ‘snubbers’ to reduce shock loads on lines and the boat;
  • Regularly check mooring lines and consider doubling up breast ropes even during the non-winter months;
  • Secure fenders as low as possible to strong points on the boat;
  • Check fairleads and cleats for sharp edges and ensure they are strong enough for the use intended;
  • Ensure sails, protective covers etc. are secure;
  • Check your boat regularly and make arrangements for her to be checked in your absence, particularly if bad weather is forecast; and
  • Consider moving the vessel from her mooring if deemed prudent.

Should you wish to discuss or require any guidance regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
